In the last few weeks life has definitely taken a turn up (and down and up again!) I’ve been slowly working my way back to consistent art and creative practices that I am passionate about. Debt is a constant worry of mine, but I know in time things will settle down and building the savings back up won’t be so hard. In the meantime, I’ve decided to turn my negative energy and feelings into something more positively focused…a healthier lifestyle.
In the past, I’ve not worried much about my health. As I get older, I am starting to think more on it, especially as my body changes and I start feeling aches I never did before. Weight loss is not my overall goal here. Feeling better is. I’ve decided to change my habits for the better, in order to feel my best. It makes things easier when you also have a loving and supportive spouse or friend by your side. My fiancé is joining me on this journey as well (his aim is weight loss, though).
May 2019 Healthier Habits
- More Water Intake – in the past I’ve drank more soft drinks, tea and juice than I ever have water. I have cut out all soft drinks for the past few months and now I am drinking a lot less juices and tea. I can drink about 5-6 bottles of water a day at the moment.
- No Carbohydrates. No Sugars – I’ve only been practicing this for 3 days and I already want a Reese’s. I didn’t realize just how many carbs I consume until I had to stop. I usually eat some form of rice/pasta with every meal! Thankfully, Mr. Right is a beast in the kitchen and has made up some very yummy and healthy recipes.
- Exercise: Get Moving – Having a full time job where I am seated the majority of the day is starting to take it’s tole. To stop feeling stiff like the Tin Man, I have decided to hit the track at least twice a week after work. The aim is two laps, but I have found myself pushing for four (1 mile) and stay for 1 hour instead of 30 minutes. I’m proud of Mr. Right as well. He does his workout regimen on his off days from work.
- Sleep – Surprisingly, this has been the hardest of the Healthier Habits to adopt. I honestly need more sleep and to go to bed at 10 PM. Sadly, I am always trying to cram everything into my day, so I’ve been going to bed at midnight (and still waking up for 6:15 AM). I haven’t figured out what to do about it just yet, so we shall see.
One fun perk has been minor shopping for some work out gear. It was a necessity for me as I didn’t even own one pair of tennis shoes to do this with. I definitely can’t work out in ballet flats or platform boots! One thing I didn’t expect was having a hard time in finding comfortable and affordable footwear and work out stuff for plus size. It seems I found these things everywhere when I wasn’t in the market to buy it! In the next few weeks I’ll be posting about my findings and how you can (maybe) save some coins in getting key work out pieces!
