Ahh, do you smell that?! It’s love in the air! With February underway, it is the season for warm fuzzy feelings and marriage proposals. I thought now would be a great time to talk about an affordable engagement ring option. Wether you’re ready to take the next step in your relationship, but still need time to save up for the one or you’re looking for a temporary ring to wear (like me!) than this post is for you.
Towards the end of last year I dropped a few pounds, unexpectedly. I am pretty sure it was due to stress and poor eating habits…BUT that’s neither here nor there. The point is, I noticed the change right away when my precious engagement ring started to slip clean off my finger! If you read My Engagement Story, you already know how much I cherish my ring. I couldn’t risk wearing it and letting my forgetful self lose it; I’d be so heartbroken. I decided to stop wearing it but I had been wearing it for so long, I feel awkward and naked without it. I remembered a company I had came across on Instagram named Modern Gents Trading Co. and decided to give them a try. Rose Gold metal with Morganite or Moissanite jewels will forever be my preference, so I am glad to see they had a selection of rings in that finish (along with the usual silver and gold). I had been lurking on this website and adding things to my cart for quite awhile. To my surprise, Modern Gents Trading Co. noticed this as well and sent me a 25% OFF code to further entice me into making a purchase..so I did! The online shopping experience was fairly easy and there were plenty of reviews, buyer photos and videos to get a feel of how the jewelry really looked. Their Instagram posts and Stories were helpful as well.

So, was it worth it?

Fast forward to receiving my ring in the mail. I purchased The Lovely. This ring is a 3ct. Cushion Cut simulated Morganite stone, set with simulated Diamonds on a 925 silver band, plated in Rose Gold ($49.95 USD). After my coupon code, I was able to purchase this ring for a mere $37-38 USD! That’s a fraction of what Mr. Right spent on my authentic engagement ring (and it was on the more affordable side; being under $400). I also purchased The One And Only, a Rose gold plated 925 Silver band featuring a simulated Diamond solitary stone. It comes in Gold, Rose Gold and Silver. This option was just to see how I would like the style. The style is nice, however, it wasn’t for me. It didn’t seem as realistic as the other; more on the lines of very sparkly and pretty costume jewelry or a cocktail ring I could pick up from Cato Plus; not really engagement ring status for me.
**I wore The Lovely for 2-3 days and here are my findings:

Initial Wear and Review (Score: 10/10)

I found The Lovely to be everything Modern Gents Trading Co. had promised! It doesn’t just sparkle and shine, this one has fire whilst under florescent lighting or natural sunlight! I was skeptical about the thin and dainty band of this ring, but it held up well and did not bend, dent or scratch. Granted, I am at a computer most of my day, but I always have a habit of knocking my ring or scratching it against something. It weathered every day usage pretty well. One thing that I closely kept an eye on was how clean and sparkly it would remain. With true Morganite, it is often in need of a clean. This ring did not get cloudy or dirty, which is great because I love hand lotion (which can be a No-no for morganite’s sparkle factor). Overall, I am really pleased and I look forward to purchasing more pieces from Modern Gents Trading Co. in the future. I will update ever so often on the longevity of how this ring stands up, as I wear my e-ring daily.

Customer Service (Score: 10/10)

We all hate having to deal with most online Customer Services when handling a Return/Exchange, but in the case of Modern Gents, I had absolutely no issues. I knew right away that The One And Only was not meant for me, so I followed their instructions for the return process. In the same manner, I also needed to exchange my Lovely, because the size was a bit big. I hadn’t been able to get my ring finger re-sized in a jewelry store, so I took a guess at my new size. I originally ordered a 7.5, but in fact the size 7 is the best fit. (Yay, for going down a whole ring size!) The return/exchange process was fairly easy. I thought it was quite nice and generous, that if you would allow for store credit on a return, that they will give you an extra $5 to spend! Sweet!
I opted for my full refund, which arrived back to my checking account in 48 hours after my return was processed. My exchange was processed and replacement shipped the next business day! I was so glad to not be too long without ANY kind of engagement ring on. (Clearly, I am attached).
**Please note, that Modern Gents Trading Co. advises against wearing your ring prior to processing a return. If the ring shows signs of wear, you can be subject to a 20% restocking fee on your return amount.

Final Thoughts
I will say, there is a definitely variation in the color of their simulated Morganite stones that you must be aware of. The first ring I purchased differed from the one shown in the advertising video on their page here. Mine was a deeper and more saturated stone that pulled more orange and resembled a Citrine gem stone. True Morganite has a light, peachy tone. The second ring I received was much like the one shown in the video; lighter in color and leaned more toward a yellow tone, like that of a Canary Diamond or Yellow Sapphire, which looks even more gorgeous paired with the Rose Gold metal. I love both equally, but some buyers may not like those differences, especially when you’re expecting one thing (like I was, on the first order) and you get something slightly different. Overall, I am really pleased with my (not so) little temporary engagement ring. I honestly can’t stop looking at it and watching it shine and I hope to make more purchases from this company in the future!
I’ll be back in a month to give you an update on how its holding up!
Thanks for the in depth review. I wonder if it’s still holding up well? Came here from your review on thier website.
Hi Moon!
Thanks for stopping by my website and checking out my review of the Modern Gents engagement ring I purchased.
I honestly didn’t expect much with this ring, but surprisingly it has held up VERY well in the months that I have had it. I wear it pretty much all day, every day and remove it for house cleaning, before bed time or when exercising. I usually keep it on when washing my hands with regular hand soap, which also keeps it clean. My original e-ring with authentic Morganite stone would get cloudy and need cleaning often, but with this man-made Morganite stone, it stays sparkly for a really long time without much effort of cleaning on my part. That was the best, for me! The band had withstood very minor wear and has not turned my finger green or gave me any reactions. I will say though, that the underside of the band (facing my palm) has slightly worn to a gold finish, where before it is completely rose gold color. Its still beautiful and shiny, just that slight color differentiation now.
Overall, I am still very happy with this ring and for the price, I wouldn’t mind buying it again. If you have any more questions, just let me know!
Love your in depth review!
Is the ring still holding up well? Did the rose gold color wear off of the band anymore?
I’d also be interested to know if that kind of wear would be under their lifetime warranty?
Their rings look so beautiful but I’m always worried about whether it’s too good to be true!
Hi Jennifer, thanks for stopping by 🙂
I have worn “The Lovely” for 7 months straight. I usually do not take my e-ring off, accept for showers and bedtime. I wash my hands pretty frequently through out the day and I do not remove the ring. I also apply hand lotion to my hands once a day (with ring off). With that being said, I honestly did not start seeing signs of actual wear until month six!
The Rose Gold finish has warn off to reveal a true gold color. For the most part the wearing off of it is even all around, but there is some parts at the base of the ring that haven’t turned yet and are still showing bits of Rose Gold. By the end of the year, with continued wear, I do foresee this gold finishing to wear down all the way to silver.
When it comes to the longevity and durability of the ring band, its pretty awesome. It has withstood a lot of bumps and dings and it has not one scratch on the metal. The actual stones are my favorite. This ring is still as sparkly as it was the first day I got it and I have not once properly cleaned it (I used to frequently clean my real e-ring with a tooth brush and warm soap water to get the sparkle going again). I am really impressed by this!
Overall, for a $30-50 ring (depending on sales, coupons, etc.) I think it is a really good buy for a temporary replacement. If you need a ring to wear on vacations, or a temporary fix for weight loss/ weight gain, I recommend this jewelry. The return policy is pretty painless as well, so if you want to order a few different styles to try them out, you can return the ones you don’t want with no hassle, as long as you follow their instructions.
I think it’s worth repurchasing, I plan to get another one 🙂 Thank you so much for your comment! I really need to post that updated review!
With Mod Gents Lifetime Warranty, it says that tarnishing or the band changing color is covered. Couldn’t you simply exchange it for a brand new one or have it repaired for free instead of buying another one? I’m very curious how that works and if there’s any money needed for it to happen.
Yes, I do believe you pay a fee for the service (or shipping rather) for $15. I haven’t tried it as of yet. In the future I think I’d like to try a different style, so I mentioned repurchasing from them again.
Hi! Now that’s it’s been a while longer, I was wondering how is it holding up? Is it still a good buy a year later?
Hi Kristen!
I can honestly say this ring was very beautiful and held up well to daily wear! It didn’t start showing signs of wear until the 2 year mark. At times I’d forget to take it off while showering or washing my hands, which probably aided in the rose gold finish wearing off quicker, but overall I was happy with how long it did last. Now, the rose gold has worn to a regular golden color. The stone is still as bright and sparkly as it was when I first purchased it. I hope this helps!
