The weekend is nearing and I honestly pray that I get some rest. Real rest. Like laying in bed until 10am taking cat naps off and on, while the TV watches me, kind of rest. 😆 I have been on the go a lot lately, leaving little to no time for real sleep. By the time I get done doing all things I need to do and want to do, its time to start the work day all over again.
Last month, Mr. Right loss his job of 11+years due to company restructure procedures. There are plenty of pros and cons, but of course, in the beginning it was hard to see anything positive coming from this. We were just getting things squared away with home expenses and managing our hooptie vehicles and then this comes along. My heart ached for my future Husband, but I eventually I knew this was going to be good for us in the long run. With a new job and a new career path, we’d finally be able to start thinking about things more long term…like our wedding and planning for a baby. For now, I am just happy that he has the opportunity to embark on a new adventure. It’s a blessing to be able to wake up and go to a job you enjoy doing every day with people who appreciate and admire you. I’ve been emotionally supportive as I can be and motivating him as much as I can. For the most part, I stay out of his way and let him feel his feelings and do what he needs/wants to do in order to pass to the next chapter in his life. 😕 I’ve learned very quickly that he deals with tough news a lot differently than I do. For now, he is studying to enter the IT field and is approaching his first certification exams. I’m so proud of him and I can’t wait to be there and cheer him on at the finish line.
With all that, I have been not only keeping busy to make extra money, like taking on art commissions, but I have also been immersing myself in the things I enjoy doing. Mr. Right is such a sweet man and even though I have to watch our finances more closely, he rarely denies me of anything. (I mean, women be shopping!) I am a natural worry wart and too much idle time is never good for me. So, what have I been up to aside from my usual infatuation with makeup? Well, since you asked… 😉 😛
Planning & Journaling
I have been slowly trying to get back into keeping my journals and planners again. I used to be such a fanatic about it. It’s funny how now that I actually have a lot of things going on in life that call for a schedule and constant written reminders, I find it even harder to keep a record of it now. I tried digital planning for awhile, when I got my iPad Pro, but didn’t enjoy it as much as the traditional way. There’s just something about new notebooks and stickers I just love. 😛 Yes, I was that kid who loved shopping for new school supplies.
The Happy Planner has debuted their 2020 collection of new planners and notebooks and I am liking it. I usually lean more toward the colorful rainbow looks, but I am admiring the more sophisticated color palette and designs they are choosing to go with. The RonRong collection is cute and I like how it depicts women of different ethnicities now. The new Skinny Happy Planner definitely has my attention. The size is fun and will be great for many different handbag sizes. I haven’t decided if I want a new planner from them as I just changed the dates in a new Recollections Spiral planner I had, but didn’t fill up. I hate wasting planner, so I opted to print out some date covers for 2020. I wish more undated planners were a thing like with Traveler’s Notebooks, but I digress.
To curb the urge, I decided to try the new Happy Planner Notebooks. They are the same great format as the planners, but with note paper instead of a calendar. The same accessories work for the disc bound notebook as well. Walmart has a clearance on their past season books! The large was only $4.50 USD and the Classic priced at $3.50 USD and filler paper was as low as $.75 cents! 😛 That’s a deal I couldn’t pass up, to try this notebook. I can always use notebooks for different things. 8) I ordered a set of Rainbow Expander Discs to make my notebook bigger and accommodate more pages. I was salty 😡 over having to spend $8 in shipping for this $5 item…I guess Amazon Prime has spoiled me.
Practicing New Art Skills
A few months ago, I was able to dive in and start digital drawing and illustration when I purchased the Apple iPad and Procreate app. I have been wanting to pursue digital artwork like this for a long time. Although I don’t think I will ever completely abandon my love for watercolor and gouache painting, doing things in digital is a lot faster (once I got the hang of it). I have had the opportunity to take on a few commissions for digital illustrations, which allowed me practice time. Aside from my commissions, I will be honest, I haven’t done as much artwork as I’d like to. Hopefully, that changes soon. October is fast approaching and the monthly art challenge of Inktober will be upon me. I still haven’t decided if I will participate or not. For more about my artwork and frequent updates, visit Mara Medium Art.
That’s pretty much my latest, in a nut shell. I have been having some health issues, but I’ll save that for a wellness focused update (let’s just say..I have been major slacking since my last post in June discussing my Health Journey. I’m hoping I can get back on track by year’s end. 🙂
